Grainger and Rowe Earn NCHC Weekly Awards

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) announced its weekly awards this afternoon, with Western Michigan's Luke Grainger and Cameron Rowe earning individual honors. 

Grainger was named the league's Forward of the Week, after putting together a strong series against Colorado College. In total, the senior forward tallied seven points on two goals and five assists in a sweep of the Tigers. Grainger contributed on every goal in the series, beginning with a goal and two assists in a 3-1 win on Friday. 

He then followed that up with four points in a 4-0 victory on Saturday. He dished out three assists before collecting the game's fourth goal. With his big weekend, Grainger is now second in the NCHC in points (19) and assists (13). Nationally, he is first in assists per game (1.30), third in points per game (1.90), tied for fourth in assists (13) and tied for fifth in points (19). 

Rowe was selected as the Goalie of the Week, excelling between the pipes all series long. He allowed just one goal across two games. He finished the weekend sweep with a 2-0-0 record, 0.50 goals against average, .980 save percentage, 48 saves and a shutout. During Friday's victory, Rowe made 25 saves, including a 10-save third period. He followed that up with a 23 save-shutout, including a 16-save first period. Rowe is now second in the NCHC in save percentage (.910) and third in goals against average (2.30).  

With the sweep, Western Michigan improved its record to 6-3-1 overall and 3-3-0 in conference play. The Broncos will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 24 against St. Lawrence. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. at Lawson Arena.
