PEORIA, Ill. -- The Western Michigan men's soccer team capped off its dominant regular season with a 2-0 victory over Bradley Wednesday evening behind goals from
Roni Sylejmani and
Tom Cooklin.
After a scoreless 45 minutes to begin Wednesday's matchup, six minutes into the second half, the redshirt sophomore Sylejmani gave the Broncos a 1-0 advantage to begin the final frame of play Wednesday. Sylejmani's goal would mark the first of the season and first of his career with the Brown and Gold. "Congrats to Roni on scoring his first college goal!" said head coach Chad Wiseman Wednesday evening. During the play, Sylejmani's teammates forward Dylan Sing and defender Will Perkins were credited with assists.
12 minutes after Sylejmani's goal, graduate student forward Cooklin would follow suit. After subbing in for the Brown and Gold, Cooklin would score his fourth goal in five contests Wednesday, extending his career best run at WMU. During Cooklin's goal, Sing was credited with his second assist on the night, while Charlie Sharp secured his seventh assist on the season.
"Bradley played very tough today, it was their senior day and they were up for the match." Credited Wiseman.
"We made a couple adjustments at half and it really paid off for us, we got some different looks and found 2 good goals in the run of play," said Wiseman. As a team, the Broncos outshot the Braves 11-3, and shut down the Bradley offense by prohibiting them to zero shots on target.
"It was a great way to close out the regular season. A regular season I don't think anyone will forget, very impressive." Said Wiseman. "It's post season time now, the best time of the year for college soccer. We're bringing the MVC championship to Kalamazoo!"
