Men’s Soccer Knocks Off Green Bay, Advances to NCAA Tournament Second Round Behind Sharp’s Hattrick

KALAMAZOO, Mich. --  The Western Michigan men's soccer team defeated Green Bay 3-0 Thursday behind forward Charlie Sharp's three goals.

Sharp would set the tone early in Thursday's contest by scoring in the 10th minute against Green Bay. His opening goal Thursday would mark his third consecutive multi-scoring game this season, his best stretch of the 2023 campaign. Entering today's contest, Sharp was tied for first in goals scored in the NCAA. "Charlie Sharp what a player, he is the best striker in the nation. It's incredible to watch what he has been doing to other teams.  Breaks another Bronco scoring record today, wow!", Exclaimed Wiseman.

To open the second half, Sharp would strike again to put the Broncos up 2-0, off an assist from Jonathan Robinson. Later in the 70th minute, Sharp completed his hattrick off and assisted Dylan Sing to cap off the victory.

"The state of Michigan vs the state of Wisconsin today for the first round NCAA match up, Michigan won.  So proud of this group, we have stayed true to who we are, and we're advancing," said Wiseman.

The Broncos performed phenomenally on the defensive end yet again. Tonight, the Brown and Gold collected their 11th shutout on the season, which is three away from tying the program record. The men's soccer team record for shutouts is 14, which was set in the 2017 season.

"Congratulations to Green Bay, they had a championship team. Our attention is now on the second round. The Blue Devils and Broncos have a date, should be a fun one", concluded Wiseman.

Historical Notes: The men's soccer team has now won nine games in a row for the second time in program history. The last time the Brown and Gold would achieve such a feat was last season. With a win over Duke, the Broncos will set a new win streak of 10 straight games without a loss.

Up Next: The Broncos will face off against Duke on the road, Sunday, November 19, at 1PM.
