Sharp Earns First Career United Soccer Coaches Player of The Week Honor

UNITED STATES-- For the first time in his career, forward Charlie Sharp has been named the United Soccer Coaches Player of The Week.

Sharp led Western Michigan to a 2-0 record this past week, with a Missouri Valley Conference  semifinal win over Northern Illinois University 3-1 and a MVC final victory over #15 Missouri State 2-1. Sharp would total four goals and one assist over the two games, either scoring or assisting in all of WMU's goals.

On Wednesday, November 8, Sharp claimed the program record for the most goals in Western Michigan men's soccer history. After Sharp's goal in the 81st minute in the match against NIU, he broke his tie with Edwards (34 goals) for the program record of goals scored at 35. Edwards had owned the all-time goals record for WMU for nearly 30 years, dating back to 1994. Sharp  was key in the come from behind victory: The forward from Brighton, Michigan scored the first and third goals for WMU and was credited with an assist on the second goal.

On Saturday, November 11, in the MVC Tournament final against #15 Missouri State, Sharp led the Broncos to a 2-1 victory, providing the Brown and Gold with an automatic NCAA Tournament berth. Sharp scored each of WMU's two goals in Western's 2-1 win over the Bears. The Broncos would never trail throughout the entirety of the contest Saturday, as Sharp scored 12 minutes into Saturday's MVC Tournament Final to give the Brown and Gold the early lead. As the contest neared its conclusion, Sharp would strike again, breaking the 1-1 tie with Missouri State in the 88th minute. With his strike, Sharp captured his fifth multi-goal game of the season and his second consecutive multi-scoring game overall on Saturday.

Sharp and the men's soccer team will square off against Green Bay at WMU Soccer Complex tomorrow at 1:00 PM. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ and Live Stats will be available under the men's soccer schedule. All students with a valid WMU ID will receive a FREE ticket courtesy of Seelye Auto Group.
