Broncos Complete Sweep in Toledo for 17th Straight Win

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan volleyball team rolled to its 17th consecutive win on Saturday as it completed a sweep of Toledo with a straight-set victory (25-22, 25-15, 25-20).

Logan Case handed out 42 assists to help the Bronco offense hit .339 for the match, the 11th time this season and eighth time in MAC play that WMU has exceeded a .300 team hitting percentage. Maggie King led Western Michigan with 15 kills for the afternoon. Behind King, WMU got nine kills apiece from Mary Clare Brusek and Anna Calcagno, eight from Keona Salesman, and Amanda Glanton put down seven on seven swings for a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage. On the defensive side, Andelyn Simkins recorded a match-high 15 digs and Reeghan Boyer pitched in with 11.
 
Toledo got out to a 12-8 lead in the opening frame. Western Michigan responded with a 9-2 surge to move ahead, 17-14. At 22-19, the Rockets tallied three in a row to tie it up at 22-22. The Broncos answered with the ensuing three points, sealing the first set on a King kill.
 
The second set was back and forth early on, but Western Michigan broke away with a 7-0 run to seize a 17-9 cushion. At 20-13, the Broncos ratted off four in a row to reach set point at 24-13. Toledo fended off a pair of set points before a Salesman kill put the Brown and Gold up 2-0 heading into the break.
 
The Broncos started quickly in the third frame, tallying seven of the first nine points. Western Michigan kept slowly building its advantage, eventually seeing it reach as high as eight, 22-14. The Rockets again battled late in the set, fighting off four set points to get within four, 24-20, but a Brusek kill halted the comeback and sealed the victory for WMU.
 
Western Michigan wraps up its regular season on Wednesday evening at Northern Illinois. First serve between the Broncos and Huskies is slated for 7 pm on ESPN+.
