Western Michigan Defeats Kalamazoo College in Exhibition Contest

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – In its final tune-up before the start of the 2023-24 regular season, the Western Michigan men's basketball team knocked off Kalamazoo College, 94-63, on Wednesday evening at University Arena.

The Broncos broke an early 6-6 tie with an 11-point run which gave them a 17-6 advantage just over seven minutes into the contest. Just past the midway point of the half, Western Michigan rattled off another eight in a row to expand the margin to 29-14. In the latter stages of the period, the Brown and Gold used a 12-2 surge to open up their biggest lead of the half, 48-28. WMU took a 48-32 cushion into the halftime locker room.

Kalamazoo College worked the margin down to 14 in the early moments of the second half, but Western Michigan countered with 10 in a row to boost its lead to 62-38. Leading 68-51 halfway through the second stanza, the Broncos amped up the pressure defensively and held the Hornets scoreless for nearly five minutes. During the five-minute stretch, WMU tallied 12 consecutive points to make it 80-51 with 6:37 to play. The largest lead of the night for Western Michigan was 32, which came at 89-57 and again with just over a minute left at 92-60.
