Broncos Extend Unbeaten Streak In 2-2 Tie At Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. --- The Western Michigan men's soccer team concluded their four-game road trip with a 2-2 draw against Evansville Saturday evening. The tie would extend WMU's unbeaten streak to a 10th consecutive game without a loss. During the match, Jonathan Robinson and Dylan Sing recorded the Broncos two goals.

"I'm so proud of the warrior-type effort our Broncos showed today after a tough decision in the opening moments of the match. But yet very disappointed in our experienced players and leaders to continue to put the team in bad positions for results", explained head coach Chad Wiseman

During a 0-0 standstill, Robinson would give Western Michigan the lead in the 22nd minute after scoring his first goal of the season and third of his career with the Brown and Gold. In the goal-scoring play, Carson Hodgson found Robinson for the go-ahead strike. Hodgson added to his season-best total in the assist department with an eighth helper on the year.

After conceding a goal to begin the second half of Saturday's contest, Western Michigan captain Dylan Sing responded in the 84th minute with a goal of his own to improve his record goal-scoring streak.

"I thought once Dylan found his goal with five minutes left that we would be able to lock the game down, but that wasn't the case, oftentimes the game doesn't reward you when you don't deserve it", said Wiseman.

Less than five minutes later, the Purple Aces responded with a goal of their own to tie up the game at two all. With the tie, the Broncos picked up one point in Missouri Valley Conference play and are now in second place behind Missouri State. The Bears are currently 3-0 in conference play. The Broncos will travel to Springfield, Missouri to face the Bears later this month on Sunday, October 22, at 4:00 PM on ESPN+.

"We finish a four-game road trip 2-0-2, everyone is excited to get back to the WMU Soccer Complex next week for an in-state rival matchup versus Oakland and a homecoming match vs Drake", concluded Wiseman.

Historical Notes

This afternoon, with his assist to Robinson, Hodgson inserted himself in a seven-player tie for the fourth most assists created in a season.

Sing's go-ahead goal in the 84th minute extended his goal-scoring streak to a program-best seventh straight game with a goal scored.

The Broncos continued their undefeated stretch after losing to #12 ranked University of Vermont on August 24, a month and a half ago. Western Michigan has now completed 10 games without a loss and has matched last year's best unbeaten streak of 10 games. The Brown and Gold are now one game away from tying the program record for the most games without a loss (11). The record has been set on two occasions: First in the 1983-84 season and last matched during the 2017 campaign.
