Jenna Blackburn Selected as MAC Offensive Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- As announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon, Western Michigan senior forward Jenna Blackburn has been selected as the Mid-American Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

Blackburn helped the Broncos go 2-0-0 this past week with wins over Kent State and preseason favorite Buffalo. The Brown and Gold outscored those two opponents 6-1. On the week, Blackburn totaled six points on two goals and two assists. She is the third WMU player to be named offensive player of the week this season (Jen Blitchok and Abby Werthman).

In a 2-0 win against Kent State on Oct. 19, Blackburn dished out an assist on the opening goal of the game before extending the Broncos' lead in the middle portion of the first half with a goal of her own. She followed that up with an assist on the game-tying goal in the first half and netted WMU's fourth goal of the afternoon against Buffalo on Oct. 22.

Her play helped the Brown and Gold move into sole possession of first place in the MAC. Western Michigan is currently riding a program record 10-game unbeaten streak and is one win away from its first ever regular season conference title. Blackburn and the Broncos host Toledo on Thursday, Oct. 26 at the WMU Soccer Complex. The game is set to begin at 3 p.m.
