Western Michigan Sweeps Eagles, Win Streak Hits 11

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Western Michigan volleyball team completed its weekend sweep of Eastern Michigan with another 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-12) victory on Saturday. The win extends WMU's winning streak to 11 in a row, its longest since 2000.

Logan Case posted a double-double (33 assists, 10 digs) for the second consecutive contest, tying her for the team lead with five double-doubles this season. Case was one of four Broncos to record double-digit digs, as WMU held Eastern Michigan to a .063 hitting percentage in the contest. Andelyn Simkins racked up a team-high 21 digs, while Anna Calcagno recorded 16 and Reeghan Boyer pitched in with 10.
 
Maggie King led the Bronco attack with 12 kills on a .313 hitting percentage, while Keona Salesman was right behind with 11 kills on a .310 hitting percentage. Mary Clare Brusek hammered down nine kills while hitting .533 and delivered a match-high four blocks. In addition to her 16 digs, Calcagno tallied seven kills and served up a career-high four aces. Western Michigan tallied 10 service aces, tied for its season high.
 
Western Michigan came out of the gates quickly, as it tallied eight of the first 11 points of the contest. The Broncos then used a 5-1 run to extend its cushion to 14-7. At 19-12, WMU reeled off six consecutive points to close out the first set. Brusek had five kills and served up a pair of aces in the opening frame.
 
Holding a 7-6 edge in the second, WMU used a 6-1 run to open up a 13-7 lead. A 10-3 surge then helped the Broncos extend their cushion to 23-12 and put the second set beyond reach.
 
WMU was out on the front foot again in the third, opening up an early 11-6 advantage. At 12-9, Western Michigan rattled off nine consecutive points to boost the margin to 21-9. Salesman helped the Broncos close it out, tallying the last three kills to seal the victory for the Brown and Gold.
