KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan men's soccer team (8-1-3) welcomes Drake University (3-6-2) for Homecoming on Saturday, October 14, at 12:00 PM at the WMU Soccer Complex. Admission is free! The game will mark the second of three straight home matches for the Brown and Gold.
After his two-goal outing against in-state rival Oakland on Wednesday, Dylan Sing moved into a tie for 17th in the active goal-scoring list for NCAA Division I players with 27 goals in his career. Sing's teammate captain Charlie Sharp is currently ranked tied for ninth in the NCAA active goal-scoring list with 30 career goals and counting.
Goalkeeper Ethan Brandt will look to secure his sixth shutout over the past eight games. Brandt is currently ranked fourth in the NCAA with six total shutouts in 12 games played. Over the last seven contests, Brandt, captain Jonathan Robinson, and the rest of Western's backline have been phenomenal, conceding an average of 0.57 goals per match.
On the offensive third of the field, Western's captain Sing will look to extend his program-best record of consecutive matches with a goal for a ninth straight game. Sing, now with 27 goals scored during his career, sits two goals away from tying Randy Wojtala (1976-79) for the third most goals in program history.
As for Sharp, he will continue to chip away at Dan Edward's (1991-94) scoring record of 34 career goals on Saturday. Sharp is currently at 30 total goals scored for the Brown and Gold and is five away from setting a new season best in the goal department. Sharp's season best is 11 goals scored in 21 games, which he set last season.
Western Michigan leads Drake in the all-time series three games to none. In each of Western's three wins, the Broncos have defeated the Bulldogs 2-1.
The Bulldogs are led by AJ Franklin, Jackson Kirsch, and Damian Segura. The trio has combined for 11 goals and five assists over the team's 11 games this season. Franklin leads the Bulldogs with six goals, while Segura has a team-best four assists.
The Broncos will now look to set a new program unbeaten streak of 12 games without a loss. Last time out in their 5-0 win over in-state rival Oakland, the Brown and Gold tied the program record of 11 games without a loss which had been set during the 1983-84 and 2017 campaigns prior to Wednesday.
As the regular season winds down, the Brown and Gold will conclude their three-game homestand versus Northern Illinois on Wednesday, November 18, at 4:00 PM.
