Gymnastics Heads to Kent State for Sunday Showdown

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan gymnastics team heads on the road for the third straight week, traveling to Kent State to take on the Golden Flashes on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Broncos (2-1) head to KSU on the back of their best team performance of the season, posting a season-high score of 195.925 in a win at Bowling Green last Friday. Senior Payton Murphy won the floor, beam and all-around and ended up earning her first MAC Gymnast of the Week honors as a result. WMU also had strong performances from Sarah Moravansky on bars and Amanda Gruber on floor. The victory was WMU's first over MAC competition this season.
 
The Golden Flashes have won two straight matches, with victories over Fisk and South East Missouri State. KSU has posted a score of 195.925 in each of its last four matches. The Broncos will mark the first MAC contest for Kent State so far this season.
 
The long road swing finally comes to an end next Saturday when Western Michigan travels to N.C. State for a tri-meet with the Wolfpack and the University of North Carolina at 4 p.m. WMU then returns home for two straight meets, hosting Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m. and Central Michigan on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m.
