WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team picked up its first road win of the season, dispatching Purdue 4-3 at the Schwartz Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
The Broncos (3-1) got off to a strong start by claiming the doubles point for the fourth time this season. Seniors Fynn Lohse and Arjun Honnappa put WMU ahead with a 6-1 win at No. 1 over Sebastian Welch and Daniel Labrador. Juniors Brogan Pierce clinched the point with a 6-1 win a at No. 3 over Milledge Cossu and Mujtaba Al-Khan. Peter Kuszynski and Ferdinand Schluter had a 4-1 lead on their opponents at No. 2 but the match went unfinished.
Honnappa gave Western Michigan a 2-0 lead after a 6-4, 6-1 win over Hassan Baroudi at No. 6 singles. Kuszynski then made it 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 3 against Cossu. Lohse clinched the win, giving the Broncos a 4-0 lead, with a win at No. 5 over Tomasz Dudek 7-5, 6-4.
The Broncos head back on the road to take on Wisconsin next Friday and Yale on Saturday, with both matches at UW.
