ATHENS, Ohio – The Western Michigan women's basketball team secured its third straight Mid-American Conference win on Wednesday, defeating the Bobcats of Ohio University at the Convocation Center, 68-57.
The Broncos distributed their scoring across the board as all players who saw the floor contributed points in Wednesday's contest.

Hannah Spitzley, and
Lauren Ross proved to be the perfect trio scoring double-digits for WMU. Ross led a total of 25 points, four assists, and two rebounds. Spitzley followed with 14 points, eight boards, four steals, and one block. Williams registered 10 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, and one steal and block each. Wednesday's contest showcased their MAC and national rankings in terms of three-pointers attempted per game. Ranked first in the conference and seventh nationally, the Broncos average 28.2 three-point attempts per game. Western Michigan shot 12-of-29 from beyond the arch for 41.4 percent. Ross led the way in made three-pointers with five, followed by Spitzley, Watters, and Voss with two, and Saxman with one.
The Broncos won tip-off at the Convocation Center in Athens, Ohio to start the contest. Watters started the Bronco scoring, downing her first three-pointer of the night two minutes into the first. Saxman followed shortly after, sinking another three-pointer for WMU. The Broncos would remain scoreless for the next two minutes of play until Western Michigan struck again. Voss joined the three-point train with 3:40 left to play in the first quarter to trail the Bobcats by one, 17-16.
Western Michigan (8-8, 3-2 MAC) was relentless in three-point attempts, starting the second with yet again a made three-pointer from Ross. The Broncos would have three more three-point attempts fall in the second, sprinkling in a few layups and free throws here and there. WMU trailed Ohio 35-34 heading into the locker room, shooting 12-of-30 from the field, 7-of-14 from deep, and 3-of-6 from the line in the first half. Ohio tied the Broncos from the field at 12-of-30 as well as deep at 7-of-14, going a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.
Ross and Spitzley proved hard to handle yet again in the third for the Bobcats. Ross shot 2-of-4 from both the field and deep for a total of six points, while Spitzley added four points with a pair of layups.
Alli Carlson added a fast break layup for a total of 12 points in the third by WMU. With their best scoring run of eight points, Western Michigan concluded the quarter leading 46-39.
Into the final stretch, Western Michigan continued to increase the lead scoring 22 points to finish the contest, 68-57. The fourth quarter featured the Bronco's biggest lead, 13, with 5:20 to play. At 70 percent from the field, 50 percent from beyond the arch, and 71.4 percent from the line, WMU outshot the Bobcats from both inside and beyond the arch while tying from the free throw line. Ross led the scoring in the final quarter at nine, followed by Williams and Spitzley each with five, and Watters with three.
The Broncos continue MAC play this week, home, at University Arena on Saturday, Jan. 21.
