Broncos Broom IUPUI to Complete 3-0 Weekend

PEORIA, Ill. – Senior outside hitter Maggie King recorded a double-double (15 kills, 10 digs) to help lead Western Michigan to a 3-0 victory over IUPUI on Saturday afternoon to complete a 3-0 weekend at the CEFCU Classic for the Broncos.
 
Following the contest, King was named the MVP of the tournament, while Logan Case was named to the All-Tournament Team. King recorded double-digit kills in all three of WMU's victories and notched a pair of double-doubles. For the weekend, the senior tallied 43 kills (4.30/set), 32 digs (3.20/set) and hit .298. Case handed out 118 assists (11.80/set) to help fuel a Western Michigan offense which hit .273 for the tournament.

King totaled 15 kills and added 10 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. Keona Salesman chipped in nine kills for the Broncos. Case handed out 30 assists for the afternoon to extend her streak of 30+ assists to 25 consecutive matches. 
 
Andelyn Simkins dug up a team-high 13 balls for the Broncos, while Reeghan Boyer picked up 11 digs. Amanda Glanton recorded a career-high seven blocks, the highest single-match total by a WMU player in 2022.
 
Western Michigan held a 7-0 advantage in service aces, fueled by King's match-high three. The Broncos also enjoyed a 9-3 edge in total blocks.
 
IUPUI held a 12-9 edge in the first set, but Western Michigan had a 5-0 run as part of an extended 8-1 stretch to move ahead, 17-13. The Jaguars could not get any closer than three for the remainder of the opening frame. 
 
The two teams were tied 5-5 in the second set until Western Michigan rattled off eight consecutive points to build a 13-5 advantage. A 5-1 run helped the Broncos extend the margin as high as 11, 19-8, and WMU cruised from there to a 2-0 match advantage.
 
WMU seized an early lead in the third set after picking up eight of the first 11 points. With Western Michigan holding a 17-13 advantage, the Broncos ripped off five in a row to ignite an 8-1 match-sealing run.
 
Western Michigan begins Mid-American Conference play next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 23 and 24, as Buffalo comes to University Arena. The series opens with a 6 pm first serve on Friday evening and concludes at 3 pm on Saturday afternoon. For tickets, visit wmubroncos.com/tickets.
