WMU's Julian Jones Takes Part in Dr. Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan Senior Associate AD for Broncos Empowered and Championship Culture Julian Jones recently wrapped up his participation in the NCAA's Dr. Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute.

The Dr. Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute provides tailored programming to assist ethnic minorities in strategically mapping and planning their careers in athletic administration by providing professional development programming.

Jones was accepted into the program back in 2020, and participated virtually until continuing in person in October of 2021. The program concluded late last month in Dallas.

"Taking part in the Dr. Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute was a life-changing experience for me," Jones said. "It helped me take a look at myself from the inside out, and the importance of caring for myself first, in order for me to care for others. I am going to be a better leader after participating in this program. There were challenges, but they were important challenges to help me grow, and be a better me. I would recommend this program for any minority looking to enhance their skillsets and to become a better administrator in collegiate athletics."

During the program, Jones and the rest of the participants heard from numerous special guests throughout collegiate athletics, including Conference Commissioners, Athletic Directors, search firms and Leadership Institute alums. Jones was also afforded the opportunity to visit the College Football Playoff earlier this year.

"We're thrilled that Julian had the opportunity to take part in this outstanding program, which has helped to produce some of the top leaders and administrators throughout collegiate athletics," WMU Director of Athletics Dan Bartholomae said. "I know he had a terrific experience, and am looking forward to seeing him take what he has learned from the program and apply it as he grows into his new role with the Broncos!"
