Women's Basketball Named Akyah Taylor Director of Video and Student-Athlete Development

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's basketball team and head coach Shane Clipfell have announced the hiring of Akyah Taylor to the position of director of video and student-athlete development.

Taylor joins the Bronco coaching staff after recently spending a season as an assistant coach for the women's basketball team at Holy Cross College. She also has experience at the coaching level as both an assistant at Concord High School and as a head coach at Elevation Prep Academy. In her second year at Elevation she helped all six seniors earn full-ride scholarships.

"We are ecstatic to have Akyah joining our Bronco basketball family," said Clipfell. "We've known each other since her playing days at Michigan State, she was an incredibly hard worker as a student athlete and that is exactly who she still is today. We will be utilizing her for both our video needs and serving our student athletes in their development both on and off the court."

Taylor played professionally in France before beginning her coaching career. She played in college at the University of Saint Francis, where she was a NAIA First Team All-American before transferring to Michigan State. At MSU she was the defensive captain for her senior seasons and was received the team's Defensive Player of the Year Award and the Hustle Award. She then spent a season as a graduate assistant on the staff.
