KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan Division of Intercollegiate Athletics and Director of Athletics Dan Bartholomae have announced the hiring of Lorne Robertson to the position of Senior Associate Athletic Director for Administration, Academics and Compliance.
Robertson will serve as a member of the Athletic Director's Executive staff, while overseeing the Academic Support Services Unit for the department's 370 student-athletes and the office of NCAA Compliance. His duties will also include providing leadership within Sports Administration team and the further development of Western Michigan's NIL program.
"We are thrilled to be adding Lorne to our growing executive team" said Bartholomae. "Lorne is considered to be an industry thought leader in the field of NCAA Compliance and has advanced the academic missions of some of the finest institutions in the country. Additionally, he has served as a sport administrator for national championship programs. We are excited to welcome Lorne back to his home state of Michigan."
Robertson joins WMU after spending the last four years at Tulane University as the Senior Associate AD for Administration and Assistant Provost. With the Green Wave he served as sport administrator for nationally ranked baseball team, men's and women's cross country and track and field teams, and women's and co-ed sailing team that went on to win the 2022 National Championship.
Robertson also helped facilitate the creation of the "Fear the Wave Collective", a Name Image Likeness collective designed around a media company that enters into NIL deals with Tulane student-athletes. In his role, he helped student-athletes navigate over 150 NIL deals in the 2021-22 school year.
"I am so thrilled to be coming home to join Western Michigan University in the role of Senior Associate Athletic Director for Administration, Academics and Compliance," said Robertson. "I want to thank Dan Bartholomae and search committee chair Elizabeth Knips for trusting me to lead these vital areas in what is a transformational time in our industry. Dan's vision speaks directly to my own core values and I am so excited to get the opportunity to help elevate the Championship Culture at WMU in these unprecedented times. I can't wait to be a part of the Kalamazoo community; to help our student-athletes, coaches, staff, and administrators accomplish great things both on and off the field of play."
Prior to his second stint with Tulane he served as the Associate AD for Compliance Services at Stanford from 2015-18. He first joined TU in 2013 as the Assistant Provost for NCAA Compliance. Robertson graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in public law and government before going on to earn his Juris Doctor from the University of Toledo College of Law.
