Sasson Named Rookie of the Year and Fulp Takes Academic Award

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey program continues announcing its team awards for the 2021-22 season, with sophomore defenseman Aidan Fulp earning the Peter R. Ellis Academic Award and freshman forward Max Sasson being named the Suzanne Klop Rookie of the Year.
 
Fulp earned the team's award for its top student-athlete after posting a cumulative GPA of 4.0 in exercise science. Fulp played in a career-high 34 games with 13 points on two goals and 11 assists while finishing with a plus/minus of +8. Fulp was named both to the NCHC All-Academic Team and an NCHC Distinguished Scholar.
 
Sasson finished his first collegiate season with 22 points on nine goals and 13 assists in 37 games. Through the first 18 games of the season he only had three points on two goals and an assist, but exploded during the second half of the season for 19 points in the final 19 games, earning NCHC Rookie of the Month for January.
 
The Broncos close out their team awards on Friday with the announcement of the Rob Hodge Most Valuable Player Award and the Neil Smith Most Valuable Defenseman Award.
