Dan Bartholomae.
Both programs have worked extensively with the Miracle Leagues in their respective areas. WMU head coach
Billy Gernon has been on the board of directors for the Southwest Michigan Miracle League for three seasons. Michigan State head coach Jake Boss and the MSU program have been involved with the Mid-Michigan Miracle League since 2012.
The Southwest Michigan Miracle League launched its inaugural fall season in 2021 with four teams, and with Bronco players coaching the Yankees and coach Gernon's wife, Annie, coaching the Reds. WMU players were on hand for all six weekends of the SMML's fall schedule. The league's spring season began on April 30.
The Miracle League's mission is to provide opportunities for children with disabilities to play baseball, "because every kid deserves a chance to play baseball". A Miracle League Field is a custom-designed field with a cushioned, rubberized surface to help prevent injuries and a flat playing surface to eliminate any barriers to wheelchairs or visually impaired players. SMML's field is located in Schoolcraft, next to The Dome.
