KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan Track & Field saw two athletes qualify in the 100-meter hurdles and one in the 100-meter dash to highlight the second day of hosting the 2022 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at the Kanley Track & Field Complex.
Sophomores
Grace Johnson and
Sarinity Bracey were paired up in the first heat of the 100-meter hurdles. Johnson burst off the blocks and ran a new personal-best time of 13.88 seconds to take second in the heat and automatically qualify for Saturday's finals. Bracey finished in fourth place in the heat with a time of 14.22 seconds, also a personal-best. Bracey had to wait out the final two heats to see if she was one of the top three remaining times to advance. She squeaked in, taking the ninth qualifying spot by edging out Buffalo's Zaria Fuller by .001 seconds. Bracey was officially clocked at 14.213, while Fuller took fourth in the third heat officially at 14.214.
Freshman sprinter
Azariah McGee-Grantham qualified for Saturday's finals in the 100-meter dash with a personal-best time of 11.92 seconds, taking second place in the second heat of the race. Her time was the six-fastest in the field.
WMU will also have finals of the discus, 4x100-meter hurdles, 4x400-meter relay and 5,000-meter relay on Saturday.
