MUNCIE, Ind. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team saw its Mid-American Conference win streak snapped at 35 after a 5-2 loss at Ball State on Friday afternoon.
BSU took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Danilo Kovacevic and Chris Adams defeated WMU's
Fynn Lohse and
Arjun Honnappa, 6-4, to earn a 1-0 advantage.
Peter Kuszynski and
Joaquin Caballer tied it up at 1-1 after a 6-4 win at No. 2 over Thibault de Negri and Eli Harran. The point came down to the Cardinal's Vince Orlando and Parris Simmons and Western Michigan's
Brogan Pierce and
Benjamin George. Ball State won the match 6-4 to secure the 1-0 lead.
The Broncos (11-8, 7-1 MAC) tied it up at 1-1 after Pierce defeated Herran at No. 1 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Nathaniel Webster gave the lead back to the Cardinals with a win at No. 3 over Lohse, 7-5, 6-4. Kovacevic extended the lead to 3-1 after downing Kuszynski 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 6-4 and Orlando sealed WMU's defeat after a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win over George at No. 5. Honnappa picked up WMU's other point, with a win at No. 4 over Chris Adams 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
WMU stays on the road, heading to Toledo to take on the Rockets on Sunday at 1 p.m.
