KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan track and field team picked up wins in the hammer throw, discus, 5,000-meter run, and 4x100-meter relay as it hosted the Jack Shaw Invitational at Kanley Track and Field on Friday and Saturday.
Senior thrower
Taylor Eaton got the weekend started in a win in the hammer throw on Friday. Eaton tossed a season-best distance of 168' 9" (51.43m).
Madison Ochs took second with a distance of 162' 2" (49.43m), a new personal-best.
Ochs earned a win in the discus on Saturday morning with a new personal-best distance of 154' 2" (47.0m). Eaton finished in third place in the event, followed by freshman
Lily Kucharek. Ochs also had a second place finish in the shot put at 42' 0.5" (12.81m).
Hall earned the win in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:04.24, edging out Ball State's Carly Spletzer by 58 seconds.
Brooke Soper took fifth in the crowded field with a time of 18:08.63.
Ahvon Mitchell,
Trinity Bracey,
Grace Johnson and
Azariah McGee-Grantham combined to run a time of 46.94 seconds to take the top spot in the 4x100-meter relay. Mitchell and Johnson finished back-to-back in the 100-meter hurdles. In a photo finish it was Mitchell that finished just ahead of Johnson, both officially running a time of 14.33 seconds.
Seniors
Kailyn Mince and
Katelyn Spooner took third and fourth in the steeplechase. Mince ran her best time of the season at 11:21.04 to take third, while Spooner finished behind her with a time of 11:52.27.
