KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team continued its perfect run through the Mid-American Conference, improving to 7-0, after a 7-0 win over Binghamton at West Hills Athletic Club on Sunday.
WMU (11-7, 7-0 MAC) earned the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 1. Peter Kuszynski and Anton Arzhankin put the Broncos up with a 6-1 win over Courage Crawford and Anshumat Srivastava at No. 2. Shourya Verma and Adi Ben-Ari leveled doubles play with a 6-3 win at No. 3 over Benjamin George and Brogan Pierce. Junior Arjun Honnappa and senior Fynn Lohse picked up the point for the Broncos with a close, 6-4, win over Dan Pergel and Joshua Roe Flannelly.
Ferdinand Schlueter picked up his first MAC win of the season, quickly beating Ben-Ari 6-0, 6-1 to push WMU's lead to 2-0. Arzhankin earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 over Roe Flannelly to make it 3-0. The lead expanded to 4-0 with a win by Honnappa at No. 4 over Crawford 6-1, 6-2, clinching the match win. Lohse earned a win at No. 3 over Pergel 6-3, 6-4 to make it 5-0, before Pierce capped off a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Srivastava. Kuszynski wrapped up the win with a three-set victory against Verma 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 1-0 (10-5).
Western Michigan heads on the road next week, taking on Ball State on Friday at 2 p.m. and at Toledo on Sunday at 2 p.m.
