TUCSON, Ariz. – Western Michigan sophomore first baseman
Cade Sullivan has been named among
Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week.
Sullivan had a prolific week at the plate for the Broncos, going nine-for-20 (.450) at the plate in five games with a .500 on-base percentage and 1.200 slugging percentage. Of his nine hits, seven went for extra bases, as he blasted four home runs and collected three doubles. The sophomore drove in 14 runs, scored eight times and tallied 24 total bases.
In Western Michigan's first game last week, Sullivan launched his second grand slam of the season as part of a career-high five-RBI performance, as the Broncos throttled Ball State, 14-2.
The Aurora, Ill., native stayed hot in WMU's weekend series at Bowling Green. Sullivan scored five times over the course of Saturday's doubleheader against the Falcons, including a two-homer, five-RBI game in the twin bill opener.
In Sunday's series finale, Sullivan notched a career-high four hits, including his third home run of the series and a pair of doubles, and drove in three runs.
For the season, Sullivan is hitting .310 with seven homers and 35 RBIs. The 35 RBIs are tied for the team lead and tied for sixth in the MAC.
The Broncos return to Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field on Friday afternoon to open up a four-game series against Northern Illinois. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05, and the game will be available on
Bronco All-Access and the
