CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Western Michigan sophomore
Grace Johnson won the 100-meter hurdles as the Bronco track and field team wrapped up the Illini Invitational on Saturday.
Johnson ran a time of 13.61 seconds, besting Akiya Kollore from Eastern Illinois by .06. The time would have been a personal-best for Johnson if not for a high wind rating. The win was the first of her career and her second top-three finish of the outdoor season in the event. Classmate
Ahvon Mitchell took fourth in the event with a time of 13.90 seconds.
Johnson, along with
Sarinity Bracey,
Trinity Bracey and
Azariah McGee-Grantham combined to take second place in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 46.97 seconds. McGee-Grantham went on to take fourth in the 100-meter dash, while
Trinity Bracey took eight in the 400-meter dash.
Sophomore
Maggie Raab took fourth overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.30, with Claria Gilchrist taking ninth place.
Over in the discus throw it was senior
Madison Ochs finishing in eight place with a distance of 137' 6" (41.93m).
McGee-Grantham, Sarinity and
Trinity Bracey, and Johnson combined to take second place in the 4x400-meter relay to cap off the weekend. The group ran a time of 3:51.55.
Western Michigan returns home to host the Jack Shaw Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Kanley Track & Field Complex. Admission is free.
