YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team fell on the road at Eastern Michigan, 4-3, on Friday afternoon indoors at the Chippewa Club.
EMU took the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Luisa Pelayo and Grace Whitney defeated
Lindsey Zieglar and
Karin Hamilton at No. 2, 6-3. Vasavi Ganesan and Isabelle Pompa secured the doubles point with a win over
Femke Tjon-A-Joe and
Taylor Smith, 6-2.
Tjon-A-Joe tied the match up at 1-1 with a quick win at No. 4 singles over Pompa, 6-0, 6-1. The Eagles battled back to retake the lead with a win at No. 5 by Emma-Lou Pommiers, 6-2, 6-1, over
Kiana Rizzolo.
Ana Guadiana extender her match winning streak to a season-long four after defeating Prema Vichare 6-4, 6-0, at No. 2 to tie the match up at 2-2. Sabina Brichakova gave EMU a 3-2 lead with a 6-0, 6-2 win over
Karin Hamilton before Pelayo sealed the match for the Eagles with a win at No. 1 7-5, 6-4, over Zieglar.
Kaitlyn Rogosch added a win at No. 6 to make the final 4-3.
Western Michigan wraps up the 2021-22 season on Sunday at Northern Illinois at 12:30 p.m.
