Danny Kolp Named Academic All-MAC

CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference announced the 2021-22 Men's Basketball Academic All-MAC Team on Wednesday, with junior Danny Kolp representing Western Michigan on the team. A total of 23 men's basketball student-athletes were named to this year's squad.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for student-athletes who excel in both athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.

Kolp's selection is the first of his career, and makes it 19 years in a row WMU has had an Academic All-MAC selection. Over the past 10 seasons, 25 Broncos have earned Academic All-MAC honors.

In his second season with the team after transferring in from Northwood University, Kolp appeared in 27 games for Western Michigan and earned four starts in 2021-22. In November against Iowa, Kolp went 3-for-3 from the field and made both of his free throws to net eight points, his highest total as a Bronco. The Petoskey, Mich., native grabbed a season-high five rebounds in his first start of the season, a win over Aquinas in December, and picked up six points and four rebounds in a road win at Bowling Green in late February.

An Entrepreneurship major with a 3.50 GPA, Kolp is on track to earn his degree from Western Michigan University this summer.
