Broncos Drop Sunday Doubleheader at Miami

OXFORD, Ohio – Western Michigan softball dropped a pair of road matchups this afternoon to the Miami RedHawks, falling by 8-0 and 6-0 margins. Today's results move the Broncos to 14-21 on the season, and 4-6 against Mid-American Conference opponents.

In the first of the two meetings, Miami scored early and often, tallying two runs in the bottom of the first and never looking back. Freshman pitcher Jordan Kavanagh was a perfect 1-1 at the plate, sending a base knock into center field in the top of the sixth after entering the game to pitch in the fourth. That would be all the offense the Broncos would create as a late run from the RedHawks ended the game in six innings.

The second ballgame of the day went very similar to the first, as Miami emerged victorious again, this time by a final score of 6-0. A two-run homer for the RedHawks in the bottom of the second inning would prove to be the difference in the game, while MU added four more runs two innings later to seal the deal in its favor.

Junior catcher Madison Duell led the batting efforts, going 1-2 with a single in the top half of five. Junior infielder Alyssa Kramer was 1-3 on her afternoon, doubling to left field in the game's opening frame. Unfortunately, the Broncos were unable to create enough momentum following the early charge and ended up dropping the outing.

The two teams will play the third and final game of the series tomorrow afternoon, with first pitch from Oxford set for 1 p.m. Live scoring will be available for the contest as well, which can be found HERE.
