KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team remained perfect in Mid-American Conference play, improving to 6-0 after a 6-1 win over Buffalo at West Hills Athletic Club on Friday afternoon.
The Broncos (10-7, 6-0 MAC) extend their conference match winning streak to 34 after their second win over the Bulls this season.
UB took an early lead for the doubles point with a 6-2 win at No. 1 by Cheng Tang and Yu-Shiange Huang over
Arjun Honnappa and
Fynn Lohse. WMU tied it up at 1-1 with a win by
Brogan Pierce and
Benjamin George at No. 3, defeating Simon Wibler and Danillis Snaiders 6-2.
Peter Kuszynski and
Joaquin Caballer sealed the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Finn Macnamara and Greg Hastings at No. 2, 6-3.
Pierce quickly increased WMU's lead to 2-0 by starting off singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 over Ryan Thompson. Lohse defeated Macnamara in the battle of the Fynn/Finn's, 6-4, 6-4 to push the lead to 3-0. Honnappa secured the win for Western Michigan with a win over Huang at No. 5, 7-5, 6-2 before Tang earned Buffalo its lone point of the match with a win over Kuszynski at No. 1 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7). Freshman
Anton Arzhankin defeated Wibler 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) to push the lead to 5-1, before George earned a two-set win over Snaiders 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).
The Broncos welcome Binghamton on Sunday for their final regular season home match of the season at 11 a.m. It is expected to be indoors at West Hills Athletic Club.
