KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The eighth-ranked Western Michigan hockey team wrapped up the 2021-22 regular season with a 3-0 blanking of Miami at Lawson Ice Arena on Saturday.
 
Seniors Drew Worrad and Ethen Frank both tallied on Senior Night, while junior forward Jason Polin also bagged a goal. Junior netminder Brandon Bussi made 32 saves to earn his third career shutout.The win was the 14th conference victory for the Broncos, a new program-best in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference era of the team's history. 
 
Worrad gave the Broncos the lead just 5:41 into the game. Senior defenseman Michael Joyaux ripped a shot from the right point and Worrad redirected the puck past Miami goalie Ludvig Persson for his career-high seventh goal of the season. Joyaux tallied his 22nd assist of the year, while Cedric Fielder picked up his eighth.
 
Frank added to the lead at 14:05 in the second period. Just as the Broncos were killing off a RedHawk power play, Ronnie Attard pushed the puck up to Frank as he was exiting the WMU defensive zone. Frank turned on the jets and cut toward the slot after crossing the blue line before firing a shot past Persson for his nation-leading 25th goal of the season. Attard recorded his 20th assist of the season on the goal.
 
Polin made it 3-0 at 15:57 in the third period on a snipe from the left circle. Max Sasson found Polin and he ripped a shot into the top-right corner of the net for his 15th goal of the season. Sasson picked up his 11th assist, while Joaux notched his 23rd.
 
Western Michigan finishes the regular season in third place in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference standings and will host Omaha next Friday, Saturday and Sunday (if necessary) in the NCHC Quarterfinals. All game times are set for 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available at www.wmubroncos.com/tickets.
