Broncos Improve to 5-0 in MAC Play with Sweep of Huskies

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan men's tennis picked up an emphatic victory this afternoon, sweeping the Northern Illinois Huskies (8-6, 2-2 MAC) by a final margin of 7-0. The win moves the Broncos to 9-7 this spring, and a perfect 5-0 against Mid-American Conference opponents.

WMU clinched the doubles point courtesy of two wins at No. 1 and No. 3. On court one, senior Fynn Lohse and junior Arjun Honnappa pulled through for a 6-3 win, while court three echoed the same 6-3 final score via sophomores Benjamin George and Brogan Pierce shortly thereafter. Furloughing a result at No. 2, the Broncos entered singles competition ahead 1-0.

Momentum remained on the side of Western Michigan for the remainder of the afternoon, as WMU won all six singles matches. Arjun Honnappa made quick work of his opponent with 6-0 and 6-2 victories at No. 5, which was followed by a pair of 6-1 advantages at No. 6 by Brogan Pierce.

Benjamin George kept the Broncos flawless in MAC play by clinching the win for WMU at No. 4 with 6-2 and 6-3 outcomes, while freshman Anton Arzhankin finished things up at No. 1, emerging with 6-1 and 6-2 successes. Senior Peter Kuszynski battled at No. 2, winning in three sets thanks to a 6-2 third frame. Fynn Lohse rounded out the Western Michigan dominance with his own three-set victory, edging his opponent 11-9 in the final set.
