BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The 66th-ranked Western Michigan men's tennis team improved to 4-0 in Mid-American Conference play with a 7-0 road win at Binghamton on Saturday evening.
The 68th-ranked doubles pair of Fynn Lohse and Arjuno Honnappa made quick work of the Bearcats' Joshua Roe Flannelly and Kyle Weekes, 6-1, at No. 1 to give the Broncos (8-6, 4-0 MAC) the early advantage. Peter Kuszynski and Joaquin Caballer had a tight match with Anshumat Srivastava and Courage Crawford, winning 7-5 at No. 2 to clinch the doubles point for WMU.
Western Michigan won five of the six singles matches in just two sets, beginning with Honnapppa's 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 over Crawford. Lohse pushed WMU's lead to 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3 over Roe Flannelly. Freshman Anton Arzhankin secured the win for Western Michigan with a victory at No. 1 over Shourya Verma 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1. Kuszynski earned a three-set victory over Weekes 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 2, while Brogan Pierce and Caballer earned wins at No. 5 and No. 6 in two sets.
The Broncos take a short break from MAC play and travel to Cornell to take on the Big Red on Sunday morning at 11 a.m.
