ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Western Michigan track and field team wrapped up the Grand Valley State Snowdown Showdown with one event win and eight finishes in the top five on Friday at the Kelly Family Sports Center.
Earning the win on the day was
Maggie Raab in the 800-meter run. Raab ran a personal-best time of 2:17.77 to pick up her first collegiate win. Junior
Claira Gilchrist finished in sixth place after running a time of 2:28.34.
Freshman sprinter Azariah McGee-Granthman had two top-five finishes. She took third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.63 seconds. She also took fifth place in the 200-meter dash with a new personal-best time of 25.04 seconds.
Senior
Annalise James continued her strong start to the indoor season with a second place finish in the mile run. James ran a new personal-best time of 5:00.69 seconds. In the 3,000-meter run it was
Brooke Soper,
Kailyn Mince and Anne Jordan all finishing in the top 10. Soper took fifth with a time of 10:24.92 and was followed directly by Mince with a time of 10:30.91. Jordan took ninth overall with a time of 10:45.06.
Sophomore
Grace Johnson continued to shine in the 60-meter hurdles, taking third place with a time of 8.80 seconds. Classmates
Sarinity Bracey and
Ahvon Mitchell all finished in the top eight with Brace taking fifth at 8.83 seconds and Mitchell in seventh at 8.90 seconds. Bracey, Mitchell, McGee-Grantham and
Trinity Bracey also combined for the team's fastest 4x400-meter relay time of the season at 4:03.86 to take third.
Over in the throws it was freshman
Elizabeth Shontz taking second in the open weight throw and seventh in the open shot put. In the weight throw she reached a distance of 49' 1.75" (14.98m) and threw 40' 8.75" (12.41m) in the shot put. Fellow freshman
Lily Kucharek took fifth in the open weight throw with a distance of 46' 10" (14.27m). Fifth-year senior
Taylor Eaton took sixth place in the weight throw invitational with a distance of 56' 10.25" (17.33m), while senior
Madison Ochs took eight in the shot put invitational at 43' 0.5" (13.12m).
Western Michigan heads to Kent State, the home of the 2022 Indoor Mid-American Conference Championships, next Friday and Saturday for the Doug Raymond National Qualifier.
