LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Western Michigan softball team shut down Green Bay, 1-0, and host Bellarmine, 7-0, on Sunday as senior pitcher
Reily Galloway registered an 8-inning complete game, one-hit shutout in the opener.
Game 1 – vs. Wisconsin Green Bay
The Broncos (3-6) had a pair of hits in the third and fourth inning, but didn't break through until the bottom of the eighth inning, when Galloway delivered a walk-off RBI single to left center, scoring
Jordyn Swinehart.
Galloway had an incredible game in the circle, as she allowed just one hit and struck out 12.
Sophomore infielder
Cassidy Brendtke went 2-for-4.
Rissa Bajusz,
Mary Smithnosky and
Taylor Wolfe each notched a base hit.
Game 2 – vs. Bellarmine
It was all Broncos in the nightcap as WMU came out swinging with three runs in the second inning. Bajusz led off the frame with a single, followed by another base knock from Smithnosky. Swinehart then loaded the bases with a walk. One run scored on a wild pitch,
Madison Duell had an RBI ground out, and freshman
Lauren Porter drove in Swinehart on a double to left to make it 3-0.
WMU added two runs in the fourth inning, and Duell hit her first career home run in the sixth, before Porter walked and later scored on a double from Brendtke to make it 7-0.
Bajusz earned her first win of the season after throwing 5.0 shutout innings with three strikeouts. Freshman
Jordan Kavanagh threw 2.0 perfect innings in relief with three punchouts.
Up next, the Broncos are back in Louisville next weekend, and will play Hofstra at 1:15 p.m. and Louisville at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 5. On Sunday, March 6 the Broncos will play Hofstra at 11 a.m. and Illinois at 1:15 p.m.
