DES MOINES, Iowa – The Western Michigan men's tennis team fell to Drake University on the road, 4-3, on Friday evening.
The Broncos (3-5) took an early 1-0 lead thanks to winning the doubles point. Benjamin George and Brogan Pierce put WMU ahead 1-0 with a win at No. 3, 6-3, over Matthe Clegg and Reid Jarvis. The Bulldogs tied it up at 1-1 with a win at No. 2 over Joaquin Caballer and Peter Kuszynski, 7-5. Senior Fynn Lohse and junior Arjun Honnappa secured the doubles point with their own 7-5 win at No. 1, downing Oliver Johansson and Jeremy Schifris.
Western Michigan went up 2-0 after George defeated Reid at No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-4 but Drake responded by earning four straight points to take the match with wins at No. 4, No. 3, No. 2 and No. 1 singles. Pierce picked up a win for WU at No. 6, defeating Markus Bolin 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to close out the match.
The Broncos are back at it on Saturday at 12 p.m. against Wichita State.
