KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team picked up its third-straight win after defeating Milwaukee, 4-3, at West Hills Athletic Club on Sunday afternoon.
WMU was up against it early on as the Panthers won at No. 1 doubles and were holding a 3-2 lead at No. 2 and a 5-2 lead at No. 3.
Ana Guadiana and
Kaitlyn Rogosch rebounded at No. 2 to win 6-4 over Mayya Perova and Nikki Milner.
Lindsey Zieglar and
Karin Hamilton completed the thrilling comeback to earn the doubles point after winning five straight sets to defeat Avery Durham and Babette Burgersdijk, 7-5.
Zieglar quickly gave the Broncos a 2-0 lead after downing Carbone 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1. Durham cut WMU's lead in half with a 6-1, 6-1 win over
Taylor Smith at No. 6 before Hamilton pushed the lead back to two, 3-1, with a win at No. 3 over Iva Stejkalova 6-3, 6-3. The Panthers were able to cut the lead back to one with a win by Perova at No. 2 over Guadiana 6-4, 6-3. Senior
Femke Tjon-A-Joe secured the team victory after a three-set win over Milner at No. 4. Tjon-A-Joe dropped the first set 6-2 but responded with wins of 6-0 and 6-3. Anika Tylek picked up the last point of the match for UWM after
Kaitlyn Rogosch had to retire in the third set at No. 5 due to injury.
Western Michigan looks to extend its winning streak when it hosts Valparaiso on Friday at 1 p.m. Admission is free and spectators are asked to wear masks.
