KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team improved to 3-1 at home this season after a 6-1 victory over Butler at West Hills Athletic Club on Saturday afternoon.
The doubles pairing of Ana Guadiana and Kaitlyn Rogosch got the Broncos off to a quick start with a 6-0 win over Logan White and Sara Linn. Butler responded with a win at No. 1 doubles, with Natalie Boesing and Delany Schurhamer defeating Femke Tjon-A-Joe and Kristina Tiraspolsky 6-3. It all came down to No.3, with Lindsey Zieglar and Karin Hamilton prevailing, 6-4, over Nora Balthazor and Veronika Bruetting.
Guadiana got the Broncos up 2-0 after making quick work of Schurhamer at No. 2 6-1, 6-1. Zieglar pushed the lead to 3-0 after downing Boesing at No. 1 7-5, 6-0, with Hamilton securing the team victory after a win at No. 3 over Sara Linn 6-0, 7-5. Tjon-A-Joe pushed the score to 5-0 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Balthazor at No. 4 and Rogosch claimed WMU's sixth and final point with w 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-7) win at No. 5.
The Broncos are back in action on Sunday morning at 11 a.m., hosting Milwaukee.
