SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team fell to the University of Notre Dame, 7-0, on the road on Friday.
The Fighting Irish earned the doubles point over the Broncos with Arjun Honnappa and Fynn Lohse getting bested by Matthew Che and Alex Nefve, 6-4, at No. 1. The point was solidified with WMU's Joaquin Caballer and Ferdinand Schlueter falling to Connor Fu and Jean-Marc Malkowski at No. 3, 6-3.
No Bronco won a set in singles action. Peter Kuszynski was bested at No. 1 by Nefve 6-1, 6-4. Freshman Anton Arzhankin lost to Aditya Vashistha 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2, while Lohse dropped a match to Che at No. 3, 6-3, 6-4. Honnappa fell to Connor Fu at No. 4, 6-2, 6-3, with Benjamin George coming closest to winning a set against Peter Onclink at No. 5 but falling short 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). The Fighting Irish wrapped up the match with a win by Malkowski over Jackson Boone at No. 6, 6-3, 6-3.
Western Michigan heads on the road next week to Drake University to take on the Bulldogs on Friday at 6 p.m. and then a match against Wichita State, at Drake, on Saturday at 12 p.m.
