KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan women's basketball sophomore guard
Lauren Ross has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season after an emphatic week that featured a career-high 37-point performance behind enemy lines against the Ohio Bobcats.
Ross was also named MAC Player of the Week in December, and is the first Bronco to earn the achievement twice in the same season since
Breanna Mobley, who accomplished the feat twice during the 2016-17 campaign. During WMU's three games last week against Buffalo, Akron, and Ohio, Ross averaged an astounding 25.67 PPG and 5.67 RPG while shooting 27-54 (50 percent) from the field, 10-19 (52.6 percent) from three-point range, and 13-16 (81.3 percent) from the charity stripe.
Lauren currently sits at fourth in the conference in scoring, averaging 19.48 PPG through 22 games this season. She is also fourth in the MAC in overall field goal percentage (45.7 percent), and third in free throw percentage (84.4 percent), while leading all true MAC sophomores in each category. On a national scale, Ross currently sits in the 24
th spot in PPG and ranks fourth among NCAA sophomores. Additionally, Ross's 37-point night is the most scored in a game by a Bronco in a win since Carrie Moore scored 41 points against Detroit Mercy in 2006.
Ross and Western Michigan take the court next on Wednesday, Feb. 16 for a home face-off against the Bowling Green Falcons for a 7 p.m. tip-off inside University Arena. The contest will be available for streaming via ESPN+, and tickets can be found
