KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought match against Arizona, 4-3, at West Hills Athletic Club on Thursday afternoon.
The doubles point came down to the match up at No. 3 of WMU's
Lindsey Zieglar and
Karin Hamilton and UA's Midori Castillo-Meza and Belen Nevenhoven. Zieglar and Hamilton jumped out to a 4-1 lead but Castillo-Meza and Nevenhoven battled back and force the tie-breaker The Wildcats prevailed in the tie-breaker 7-4 to earn the point. WMU's duo of
Ana Guadiana and
Kaitlyn Rogosch earned a win over Parker Fry and Salma Ziouti, 6-4.
Arizona pushed its lead to 3-0 with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles before Hamilton got the Broncos on the board after Lexi Ryngler had to withdraw from their match. Senior
Femke Tjon-A-Joe cut the lead to 3-2 with a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 4 over Castillo-Meza but a win at No. 2 by Kayla Wilkins sealed the victory for the Wildcats with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 win over
Ana Guadiana. Ziegler earned a win at No. 1 over Ziouti 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 to set the final score.
The Broncos head out on the road to Indiana University on Saturday for a double-header against the host Hoosiers at 10 a.m. and Bellarmine at 2 p.m.
