COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Western Michigan freshman forward Max Sasson has been named National Collegiate Hockey Conference Co-Rookie of the Month for January.
Sasson had a breakout month with five points in the four games, helping the Broncos to a 3-1-0 record. All three wins came over top 10 opponents. The Birmingham, Mich., native had at least a point in each game, tallying two goals and three assists.
Sasson opened the month with a pair of assists in the 4-1 win over No. 9/10 North Dakota. The followed it up by scoring the game-winning goal the next night, tallying his first career short-handed goal, in the 2-0 win over the Fighting Hawks. Last weekend he netted a goal in the 5-4 loss at No. 7 Minnesota-Duluth, before assisting on the game-winning goal in Saturdays 3-2 overtime victory over the Bulldogs.
This marks the third straight month that Broncos has taken home a NCHC monthly award. Ethen Frank earned NCHC Player of the Month in November and junior netminder Brandon Bussi was named NCHC Goalie of the Month for December.
Western Michigan is back on the road this weekend, traveling to Colorado College for a pair of games on Friday at 9:30 p.m. ET and Saturday at 8:00 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on NCHC.tv and can be heard live on the Bronco Media Network.
