KALAMAZOO, Mich., - The Western Michigan women's basketball started off the home doubleheader Saturday, Dec. 10 with an impressive 77-67 victory over Indiana State University. 
 
Lauren Ross was a force to be reckoned with tallying a season-high 30 pts going 7-for-17 from the field, 4-for-8 from deep, and 12-for-13 from the free throw line. Taylor Williams added 18 points for the Broncos. Williams shot 6-for-13 from the field, 6-for-11 from the charity stripe, six rebounds, three blocks, and two steals. Hannah Spitzley intensified the Broncos' play today providing eight points, six rebounds, one block, and two steals. 
 
Western Michigan started down two points entering tip-off, a result of a technical call on WMU. With a three-pointer made by ISU, the Broncos started at a five-point deficit. Lauren Ross started the scoring for the Broncos with a made three-point jumper after an early 6-0 run by the Sycamores. Ross added a set of two-point jumpers followed by a made three-point attempt from Maggie Stutelberg to trail ISU 14-3. Trading a round of baskets, Indiana State increased their lead to 27, ending the first quarter 27-18.
 
The Broncos and Sycamores traded shot for shot, keeping a close score. Western Michigan shot 5-for-11 from the field, 3-6 from deep, and 7-10 from the charity stripe. Indiana State recorded seven of 12 attempts from the field, one made a three-point attempt while going 0-for-3 in free throw attempts. WMU trailed ISU heading into the locker room 38-42.
 
Hannah Spitzley ignited a last stretch of fire for WMU, adding four points in the fourth, Spitzley completed a solid block and two major rebounds (offensive and defensive) to secure the game for Western Michigan.
 
Western Michigan shot 6-for-14 from the field (42.9 percent), 7-for-10 from the line (70 percent) and added an impressive five-made three-point attempt for 50 percent from deep in the third. Maddie Watters tallied an impressive 2-for-2 from the field and two back-to-back made three-point attempts. The Broncos scored 24 points in the third increasing their lead to 62-54.
 
WMU concluded today's matchup shooting 21-for-53 for 39.6 percent from the field, 11-25 from deep for 44 percent, and 24-34 from the free throw line for 70.6 percent. WMU recorded 13 points off the bench and 18 points in the paint, while converting 18 points from forced turnovers. The Broncos finished the game with a 77-67 victory, leading for 15 minutes of play.
