KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan's
Benjamin George and
Jackson Boone won flight championships as the WMU men's tennis team wrapped up hosting the MAC Indoors at West Hills Athletic Club on Sunday.
George defeated Roger Tsai from Northern Illinois in a three-set match. Tsai took the first set 6-4, but the junior responded with a 6-1 win in the second and a 6-3 win in the third to close out the match, winning Flight 2.
Boone won the Flight 4 title after beating Ball State's Eli Herran 6-4, 6-4. All three of Boone's singles wins on the weekend went just two sets.
Sophomore Anton Arzhankin won the third place match of Flight 1, defeating NIU's Oliver Valentinsson 4-6, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (14-12).
Arjun Honnappa fell to Buffalo's Daniils Snaiders, 6-4, 6-1, in the Flight 3 Championship match, while junior
Brogan Pierce was bested in the third place match by Toledo's Mattias Olivero in two sets 7-6 (5), 6-3. Junior
Ferdinand Schlueter also dropped a third place match in Flight 5, falling to the Huskies' Guy Dagan 7-6 (6), 6-3.
That wraps up WMU's schedule for 2022, with the dual match season beginning in 2023.
