Broncos Host Detroit Mercy Saturday Afternoon

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's basketball team returns home after its away stretch to in-state opponents on Saturday, Nov. 19 hosting the University of Detroit Mercy at 2 p.m. inside University Arena

Saturday's matchup between WMU and U of M will take place in Kalamazoo, Mich. at the University Arena. The matchup will be available for streaming via Bronco All-Access Network. The link to the stream is listed above, and can also be found HERE.

SERIES 
WMU leads the all-time series 20-14 against the Titans and has won the last seven meetings dating back to 2013.
 
LAST TIME OUT: WMU DROPS CONTEST TO MICHIGAN
WMU fell to No. 23 Michigan on Wednesday in Ann Arbor by a score of 67-99. Redshirt sophomore Lauren Ross led the Broncos with 27 points, shooting 5-of-5 from the three-point range. Redshirt Freshman Maggie Stutelberg totaled seven points, shooting 6-of-12 from the three-point range. 
 
As a collective, Western Michigan shot 9-20 from distance and connect 13 of 28 three-point shots, which was good for 34.2%. The Broncos shot eight for eight from the free throw line. The Broncos pulled 15 rebounds and tallied four blocks, 14 steals, and 14 assists.
 
WESTERN MICHIGAN (0-2 Overall)
Western Michigan is 0-3 one the season after playing Loyola Chicago, Michigan State, and Michigan. The Broncos finished the 2021-2022 campaign with a 16-14 overall record and 10-10 in the MAC. WMU is led by Ross with 60 points. Ross averages 20 PPG on 52.4 percent shooting from the field. She tallies 2.7 three-pointers per game, while adding a total of six rebounds, five assists, and eight steals. Stutelberg follows behind with 27 points, recording 9 PPG on 31 percent shooting from the field. She adds 2.3 three-pointers per match, while tallying one assist and one steal.
 
As a unit, Western Michigan averages 55.7 PPG on 36.4 percent shooting from the field. The Titans also average 19 rebounds per contest, for a -21.7 rebound margin per game over their opponents. The Broncos average 15 free throws per game and knock down 68.4 percent of their attempts from the charity stripe. Additionally, WMU dishes out 9.2 assists per contest, while also averaging 9.3 steals per game. 
 
SCOUTING THE TITANS (1-2 Overall)
Detroit Mercy enters Saturday's contest against the Broncos coming off a win against Canisius by a final score of 70-65. Senior Imani McNeal added a season high 14 points while grabbing a career-best nine rebounds. Freshman Amaya Burch pulled 12 points with six rebounds. Sophomore Emma Trawally Porta posted four blocks and 13 rebounds with six points and two assists. 
 
As a unit, Detroit Mercy averages 62.7 PPG on 36.1 percent shooting from the field. The Titans also average 50.7 rebounds per contest, for a -10 rebound margin per game over their opponents. The Titans average 15 free throws per game and knock down 69.2 percent of their attempts from the charity stripe. Additionally, DMU dishes out 9.7 assists per contest, while also averaging 3.3 steals per game. Offensively Detroit Mercy is led by Amaya Burch, who averages 12.7 PPG on 32.6 percent shooting. Burch also averages 5.7 rebounds per game and .3 steals each time out.
