KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's basketball team took on No. 23 Michigan on Wednesday in Ann Arbor, falling by a score of 67-99.

Lauren Ross led the Broncos with 27 points, shooting 5-of-5 from the three-point range. Redshirt freshman
Maggie Stutelberg totaled seven points, shooting 6-of-12 from the three-point range.
Michigan outscored the Broncos 23-16 in the first quarter, shooting 35.7 percent from the floor while holding the Broncos to 5-of-14 shooting inside the arc. Four of WMU's 16 points in the first frame came from free throws as they went 4-for-4 from the line.
The Wolverines (3-0) closed the first half with a 10-0 run with 25 points each from Laila Phelia and Emily Kiser. Phelia went 11-of-18 shooting, including 3-of-4 from the three-point range; Kiser went 11-of-18 shooting, tallying 14 rebounds and eight assists. Leigha Brown also added 13 points for Michigan in Wednesday's contest.
In the third quarter, WMU shot 4-for-14 from the floor for a percentage of 28.6, tallying 3-for-6 three-pointers for a percentage of 33.3.
The Broncos refused to go down without a fight, increasing their shooting percentage from the field to 36.8 percent and their three-pointer percentage to 35.7. To conclude the matchup, WMU added its best scoring run of five, scoring four in the paint and recording the night's high of 23 points in the quarter.
As a collective, Western Michigan shot 9-20 from distance and connect 13 of 28 three-point shots, which was good for 34.2%. The Broncos proved themselves from the charity line, shooting eight for eight. The Broncos pulled down a total of 15 rebounds while adding four blocks, 14 steals, and 14 assists.
Leading the way this afternoon was Ross with 27 points, recording three rebounds and three assists while shooting 9-14 for a field goal percentage of .643. Following with 20 points, Stutelberg added on a rebound and shot 7-14 for a field goal percentage of .5.
Gabi Saxman and
Hannah Spitzley also made their way on the board tonight. Saxman tallied one rebound and seven assists, while Spitzley added two rebounds and shot 3-11 for a field goal percentage of .273.
Western Michigan heads back home this coming Saturday, for a matchup with the Detroit Mercy Titans. Tip-off on Nov. 19 inside University Arena is set for 2 p.m. The game will be streamed on Bronco All-Access and tickets are available online at
