Nimick, Morse and Hodgson Claim Player of the Year Awards

CLEVELAND – Western Michigan senior defender Daniel Nimick became the second player to win the MAC Player of the Year Award in WMU program history, as the MAC announced its post-season awards on Thursday. Several other Broncos were honored as well, including graduate student goalkeeper Hunter Morse (Co-Goalkeeper of the Year, Second Team All-MAC), and freshman midfielder Carson Hodgson (Freshman of the Year). Additionally, senior midfielder Eric Conerty and senior forward Charlie Sharp were selected to the All-MAC First Team, while senior forward Mike Melaragni, senior forward Dylan Sing and senior defender Jaylen Shannon were all named to the All-MAC Second Team.

Player of the Year
Nimick is the second player in Western Michigan's program history to be named MAC Player of the Year. A native of Harrogate, England, he has started all 17 matches this season, tallying seven goals and one assist for a total 15 points. Nimick leads the MAC and is tied for 10th in the NCAA with four game-winning goals, while ranking third in the MAC for total goals. He ranks seventh in the MAC in points (15) and shots on goal (15). Named to CollegeSoccerNews Men's National Team of the Week and MAC Player of the Week earlier this season, he records his third All-MAC accolade, and second First Team honor. 
 
Co-Goalkeeper of the Year
Morse has been named the 2022 Co-Goalkeeper of the Year. A native of Belleville, Mich., he has started in goal for all 17 matches with Western Michigan. Morse brings in an impressive record, having only allowing seven goals in 17 games, to make him leader of the MAC with a goals against average of 0.412. He has tallied 53 saves to earn a total of 10 shutouts this season, ranking him first in the MAC and third in the NCAA for shutouts. His .883 save percentage also leads the NCAA.
 
Freshman of the Year 
Hodgson has been named the 2022 Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year, the third Bronco to receive this honor. A native of Macomb, Mich., he has started in all 17 contests for WMU, and has picked up three assists this season. He has added 15 shots, including three shots on goal and recorded a total of 1,354 minutes. 
 
All-MAC First Team Selections 
Sharp has been named to the 2022 Mid-American Conference First Team. A native of Brighton, Mich., he has started all 17 matches this season, recording nine goals, 25 points, 29 shots on goal, and 62 shots in total, earning him the lead in the MAC in each category. Named MAC Player of the Week three times and the MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week as well, he is tied for third in the MAC with seven assists. Nationally, he ranks 24th in goals, 39th in goals per game (0.53), sixth in shots per game (3.65), 11th in shots on goal per game (1.71), tied for 14th in points, and 20th in points per game (1.47). 
 
Conerty has been named to the 2022 Mid-American Conference First Team. A native of Grand Rapids, Mich., he has started all 17 matches this season, totaling three goals and 10 assists for a total 16 points, tying him for fifth in the MAC in points. Conerty leads the MAC and is tied for fifth in the NCAA with 10 assists and is tied for seventh in the NCAA with 0.59 assists per game. Conerty's 10 assists are second-most in a single season in Western Michigan program history. He is tied for ninth in the MAC with two game-winning goals and 10th for shots with 30 total shots. 
 
All-MAC Second Team Selections
Melaragni has been named to the 2022 Mid-American Conference Second Team. A native of Rochester, Mich., he has started in 16 matches for the Broncos, totaling five goals and five assists for a total of 15 points. He is ranked eighth in the MAC in both goals (5) and points (14). This season Melaragni upped his career game-winning goal total to eight, the second highest in WMU program history. 
 
Sing has been named to the 2022 Mid-American Conference Second Team. A native of Berrien Center, Mich., he has started all 17 matches for WMU in the 2022 season. Sing has tallied five goals and six assists for a total 16 points heading into Sunday's championship match. His 16 points ranks him fifth in the MAC, while he is tied for seventh for assists. He is ranked third in the MAC in shots on goal with 19 and has a total shot count of 43. Of his five goals, two have been game-winners, which is tied for ninth in the MAC. Named MAC Player of the Week earlier this season, Sing earned his second All-MAC accolade.
 
Shannon has been named to the 2022 Mid-American Conference Second Team, claiming his second All-MAC accolade. A native of St. Joseph, Mich., he has started 16 matches this year for the Broncos. Shannon has recorded two goals and one assist on the season with five total shots, three shots on goal, and one game-winning goal. He has been an integral part in Western Michigan's top-rated defense, playing his part in its 11 shutouts.
