FIRST AND FIVE
#MACTION TIME
The Broncos open midweek MACtion on the road at Bowling Green. This is the 18th MACtion game under head coach
Tim Lester, who has a 9-8 record so far. Last season the Broncos went 2-2 in midweek games and 3-0 in the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season that started with midweek games. WMU also hosts Northern Illinois next Wednesday and then makes the trip to Mount Pleasant for the Battle for the Cannon at Central Michigan on Nov. 16.Â
CLEAN SWEEP
After their 16-10 road win at Miami the Broncos swept the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week Awards. Junior running back
Sean Tyler was named MAC West Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 110 yards and a touchdown. Middle linebacker
Corvin Moment had seven tackles and a career-high 3.5 sacks, while helping hold the RedHawks to just 305 yards of total offense to earn MAC West Defensive Player of the Week. Freshman kicker
Palmer Domschke was named MAC West Special Teams Player of the Week after connecting on three crucial field goals, including a career-long of 52 yards against Miami.Â
SHUTTING THEM DOWN
The 16-10 win over Miami was the first time since 2019 that the Bronco defense held a Mid-American Conference opponent to 10 points or less. The last time it happened was back on Oct. 26, 2019 in a 49-10 home win over Bowling Green.Â
THIRD QUARTER MAGIC
The third quarter has been Western Michigan's best quarter all season long. The Broncos outscored Miami 10-0 in their most recent win and have outscored opponents 52-28 on the season. That's to frequently winning the coin toss this season, WMU has started the third quarter with the ball in six of the eight games this season.Â
MOVIN' ON UP
Despite not getting a chance to return a kick in the win over the RedHawks, with all three of Miami's kicks resulting in touchbacks, junior running back
Sean Tyler still moved up in the national rankings in all-purpose yards per game to 15th in the nation. Tyler had 118 total yards on 110 rushing and eight receiving in the win. He has 529 yards rushing, 111 yards receiving and 454 yards in kickoff returns so far this season. Tyler averages 136.8 all-purpose yards per game.Â
