Broncos Fall to Falcons in MAC Quarterfinals

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Western Michigan women's soccer season has come to an end after the sixth-seeded Broncos fell, 2-0, at third-seeded Bowling Green in the Mid-American Conference Quarterfinals on Sunday.
 
WMU, who qualified in dramatic fashion with a last-minute win over Toledo on Thursday, was shutout by a MAC opponent for just the third time this season.
 
Western Michigan carried possession in the first half, outshooting Bowling Green 7-4, but it was the Falcons that struck first in the 42nd minute. Alexis Miller crossed the ball into the box from the left side and Alaina Uncapher found space and headed it into the net to give BGSU the lead.
 
The Falcons added to their lead in the 69th minute on a goal by Maya Dean. WMU tried the clear the ball out of the box after a corner kick but Dean was able to corral the ball just beyond the box and volleyed it into the net to push the score to 2-0.
 
WMU Picked up the pressure late in the game with. Olivia Brunink saw two of her scoring chances go off the crossbar and just wide of the far right post. Brunink led the team with five total shots off the bench, while Jenna Blackburn Madi Canada and Frankie Mudd each had two.
 
Hannah Sargent made four saves in her final appearance with the Broncos.
