Men's Soccer Earns Three Points on the Road

CHICAGO – The Western Michigan men's soccer team went on the road in Mid-American Conference play, earning three points against Chicago State University, 2-1, on Saturday.

The Broncos (12-2-1,4-1-1 MAC) picked up goals from senior forward Jordan Walker and senior defender Daniel Nimick. Graduate transfer goalkeeper Hunter Morse made two saves to pick up his 12th win with the Broncos. WMU outshot CSU 18-5 overall and 10-3 on goal.

Chicago State started the scoring when the Cougars, Cal-Wayne Allen, tucked a ball away into the left post off a short corner kick that made its way through the Bronco's box.

Trailing for most of the first half, Western Michigan got on the scoreboard thanks to Walker's second collegiate goal in the 44th minute. A ball played from the midfield met the foot of Charlie Sharp who turned CSU's center back. Sharp fired a shot that was saved and bobbled to Walker, who buried it into the back of the net for the Bronco's equalizer.

"Jordan's goal right before half was a great momentum changer going into halftime, the big moment of the game," said Head Coach Chad Wiseman.

WMU took its 2-1 lead in the second half when Nimick netted his sixth goal of the season with a header off a curled corner kick from Jonathan Robinson in the 84th minute. Nimick's goal made his third game-winning goal of the season.

"Captain Daniel with the game-winner, he is having a great senior year," added Coach Wiseman.

"Three points on the road was the goal today, the boys achieved that, now it's time to recover and get ready for a big game against Bowling Green Wednesday."

Western Michigan returns home to the WMU Soccer Complex on Wednesday, Nov. 2 to take on Bowling Green State University at 4 p.m. Admission is free and the game can be watched live for free at www.wmubroncos.com/watch. WMU then heads back on the road, traveling to Akron on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m.
