KALAMAZOO, Mich. --- The Western Michigan women's soccer team fell, 2-1, in the final minutes to Eastern Michigan on Sunday afternoon at the WMU Soccer Complex.
The Broncos (3-7-5, 3-3-2 MAC) got off to a very hot start with Drew Martin scoring her first collegiate goal just 1:50 into the game. Jenna Blackburn took the ball down the right flank and crossed it into the box. The low-rolling cross went right to Martin and she kicked in it from 5-yards out to give WMU a 1-0 lead.
Western Michigan was unable to find its grove offensively in the first half after that, landing one more shot on goal.
Eastern Michigan tied it up at 1-1 in the 28th minute off of a corner kick. Vittoria Greco served the ball into the box and Maddi O'Farrell headed it straight into the back of the net.
WMU turned up the pressure in the second half, firing off 14 of its 25 total shots in the final 45 minutes. The Broncos also landed nine of those 14 on goal, but didn't get any more past Rebecca Pryzbylo.
The Eagles tallied the game-winner in the 85th minute. Greco was just outside the right edge of the box and crossed a ball at the back of the far post. Hannah Thompson positioned herself and headed it in.
Prior to the game the Broncos celebrated its Senior Class of Claudia Schilling, Hannah Sargent, Kai Sugiyama, Jorden Campbell and Reagan Wisser.
